Reasons to Read

Last year, I finally caved and bought a smartwatch. I’ll be honest; it drives me crazy. It constantly nudges me with reminders like “Time to stand” or “Keep moving!” But I’ll admit, I enjoy the satisfaction of closing all the rings and seeing the notifications that say: “You did it!” or “You’ve smashed your goals today!” It got me thinking, what if we had similar motivations for reading the Bible? Imagine the joy of seeing a daily reminder: “You’re growing in faith” or “God’s Word is shaping your heart.”

Maybe you started this year with a resolution to read the Bible more. By now, as we’re halfway through January, the excitement might be fading, and sticking to a routine feels harder than you’d expected. If that’s you, here are a few reasons why reading God’s Word daily is worth the effort.

The Bible is one of the greatest gifts God has given us

The Bible reveals God’s love and plan. The Bible is one of the greatest gifts God has given us. Between Christ’s first coming and his return, we have his Word and his Church to sustain us. The Bible isn’t just ancient texts, it’s God’s story of redemption, written for you. Every chapter shows us who God is, how deeply he loves us, and his plan to restore a broken world. From Genesis to Revelation, it’s one unified story: creation, fall, redemption, and restoration, and at the heart of it all is Jesus. When we read Scripture, we’re discovering how our story fits into God’s narrative.

The Bible guides your daily life. The Bible doesn’t just tell us about God; it equips us for everyday life. It’s filled with wisdom that transforms how we live, shaping our relationships, guiding our decisions, and offering hope in our challenges as the Holy Spirit applies the truths of Scripture to our hearts. As 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Reading the Bible daily anchors us in truth, shapes our perspective, and helps us grow in Christlikeness. It’s like a daily reset button, aligning your heart with God’s will and giving you strength for what’s ahead.
