120 Years: Everything from Jesus and for Jesus

St Andrew’s began in 1906, as a small church of a few dozen people meeting together. Our church building was one of the tallest in the area, Nathan Rd was called Robinson Rd, and there were miliary barracks across the road where Kowloon Park is currently situated. 120 years later, much has changed. However, our purpose remains the same: to know Jesus and to make Jesus known to others. On our anniversary, we want to celebrate God’s goodness to us over so many years and resolve to continue to serve Jesus and proclaim him as Lord and Saviour.

Anniversaries are best celebrated with family and friends. We’d love you to join us at some wonderful events. There will be a wine tasting event at 5pm on Saturday 11 April in our heritage-listed church building. Our main celebration will be a special service at 5pm on Saturday 25 April in the Life Centre Auditorium. We’ll have to opportunity to reflect on our past and commit ourselves to our future together as God’s people. It will be an evening of musical worship, testimony, and prayer. Following the service, for those who can stick around, we’ll have a buffet dinner in the church grounds. The service and the dinner will be ticketed events. Please sign up through the What’s On page.

we want to celebrate God’s goodness to us over so many years

When our church was consecrated in 1906, the first sermon preached at St Andrew’s was from John 4:37-38. Jesus said to his followers, “the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labour.” Christians hear the gospel of Jesus through the faithful labour of others. In turn, we are to labour so that others can hear the gospel. St Andrew’s wants to be a community that faithfully sows, using the resources that God has given us, so that others may reap in hearing the good news of Jesus.

For our anniversary, we also invite you to contribute a thanksgiving gift so that gospel ministry can continue at St Andrew’s in years to come. This gift will go towards much needed renovations in the Life Centre basement, the interior of our heritage-listed church, the interior of the Old Vicarage. The gift will also be used for our church CARE Fund to support church members in emergency need, as well as blessing our church mission partners. We seek to raise a minimum of 6 million dollars (at least 40% to be used for the CARE Fund and given to our mission partners).

St Andrew’s merchandise will also be available for purchase from 11 April, including umbrellas and tote bags, to raise funds for these renovations. More information can be found at the 120th anniversary page.

We’d love for you to join us for our anniversary celebrations as we give thanks to God and remember that everything comes from Jesus and is for Jesus.
