If you’re thinking about serving but aren’t sure where or how to start, pray and ask God to guide you. That’s exactly what I did, and despite my hesitations and doubts, he led me to Kidzone. As a full-time teacher and a relatively new Christian, I wasn’t sure if I was “qualified” to serve in Children’s Ministry.
After speaking with Claudia, the Ministry Volunteer Coordinator, I connected with Carol, the Children’s Ministry Director, and began serving in Kidzone a few weeks later. It has been a rewarding experience to help nurture children’s faith in Jesus in a caring and fun environment.
Kidzone feels like a close-knit, mini church service for children up to age 11. It’s a place where God’s Word and love are shared meaningfully through stories, interactive worship songs, movies, group activities, discussions, and games.
Together, we’re learning to flourish as God’s children.
I’ve loved building relationships with fellow volunteers, brothers and sisters in Christ, as well as with the children. One of the most amazing parts is hearing the kids share their perspectives, which often leads to insightful discussions and deeper questions. Encouraging them to voice their thoughts helps them grow in their understanding of God’s Word and their relationship with him. Together, we’re learning to flourish as God’s children.
Each Sunday, volunteers gather to pray and serve under Carol’s leadership. There are two Kidzone services: one at 9:30am and another at 11:30am, and you can choose which one works best for you. As volunteers, we are encouraged to commit our time to serve for a minimum of two services each month. I’ve served as both a teacher and an assistant, working with different age groups. Full training and ongoing support are provided, along with prepared materials that present Scripture in child-friendly ways.
Serving in Kidzone has given me the opportunity to serve God and his church, while also deepening my faith. I’ve come to realise that God doesn’t need us to build his church, but in his kindness and love, he chooses to use us. Each week, I’m reminded that we serve a God who first served us, who came not to be served but to serve. His example encourages me to keep showing up, even when I’m tired or unsure. It’s in the small, faithful moments, singing with the kids, listening to their questions, and praying with them, that I see God’s grace at work.
Anyone can serve in Kidzone! All you need is an open mind and heart, a joyful willingness to serve humbly, and a desire to please the Lord. As a church, we are free in Christ to love and serve together.
“He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” Ephesians 4:16 (NLT)
