In 2018, St Andrew’s began a partnership with Compassion International. Worldwide, 356 million children live in extreme poverty. Poverty robs children of their basic rights to learn, play, and grow. In its ugliest form, poverty can lead to exploitation, child labour, and even death. But there is hope. We can make a difference.
Compassion’s Child Sponsorship Program exists so that we can make a difference to children in need. Every year, St Andrew’s holds “Compassion Sunday” to share how you can be involved. The hope of Jesus, the care of a local church, and the encouragement of a loving sponsor are more powerful than poverty.

Compassion’s Child Sponsorship Program doesn’t just address children’s physical needs, but the needs of their heart, mind and soul. Here’s how Compassion makes a difference, and why St Andrew’s is pleased to partner with them:
1. They love Jesus.
Jesus is at the heart of what Compassion does. Each of the 2 million children in their programs has the chance to hear the life-changing message of Jesus’ love. They believe Jesus is the ultimate source of hope, both for the immediate and the eternal.
2. They love children.
The Child Sponsorship Program meets the specific needs of each individual child. When you become a sponsor, you’re personally connected with a boy or girl who will know your name and treasure the thought you care about them.
3. They love the church.
The program is run entirely by local Christian churches in Africa, Asia, Central America, and South America. Why? Local churches are experts on their community’s needs. Compassion equips them with resources and training to help them release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.
Alice and I have found it incredibly meaningful to partner with Compassion as we sponsor our child Jean and connect with her each month. There are still so many children living in poverty. You can be a good neighbour by sponsoring a child in the Philippines today and add to the 200+ children already sponsored by St Andrew’s members. It costs approximately $HK280 dollars per month.
