Why Christmas? Jesus tells us himself: “the son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

~Mark 10:45

Christmas can be a time of good will to all people, acts of charity, too much food and lots of giving. But why all of this generosity every year?

We sometimes talk about charity beginning at home. The gospel is different, it reminds us that charity begins with God. Christmas reminds us that God saw our desperate need and gave extravagantly. Not a just a red packet, but He gives extravagantly of himself in sending His Son Jesus to be born into the world.

At Christmas, we remember the God of the bible is with us. That’s the heartbeat of Christmas. Amidst all the attractions of Christmas – the food, the friends, the family, and the fun – Christmas is all about God’s lavish generosity in giving us Jesus, the greatest gift of all.
